AromaTalk Tip of the Week: Dental Problems

Tooth Brush Pictures, Images and Photos

"Rosemary, Oregano, and Thieves oils may have saved my two front bottom teeth. My dentist hit a nerve in one and came close in the adjacent tooth, while drilling two cavities. He advised me to see an orthodontist, as it was likely that one or both teeth would die. I was out of juniper oil, but used the other oils for nerve regeneration and infection protection. I swabbed both teeth and gum areas with these oils for several days and the teeth are fine 10 months later."

AromaTalk Tip of the Week: Thieves Hand Purifier

" I am unable to tolerate the chemicals and perfumes in the soaps in public restrooms, so I am glad to have Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier in a size so convenient for purses. One day while I was eating lunch, I spilled on my pastel cotton top. I thought of the Thieves purifier I had in my purse, dabbed some on, rubbed a little with my finger, and left it. The next day I did the laundry and my top came out with the stain gone. Thank you for a great product!"

Facing Influenza With Essential Oils

You have probably seen the billboards and the TV ads asking the question "Are YOU the face of influenza?" To me, this question has victim written all over it. Don't get me wrong, we should definitely be concerned about contracting the flu, but should not fear it. With its dramatic tone and ominous black and white photos, the influenza awareness campaigns really play up the fear factor in a very subtle way. If one pays close attention, this campaign is actually an advertisement for vaccines.
My question would be "Is your immune system ready to face influenza?" Powerful bacteria and virus fighting essential oils are a great asset to your medicine cabinet for supporting the immune system. Here are some of the simple things that can be done to assist the body's natural defenses:

#1 Pray for your immune system and for the protection of your loved ones health many times daily. Do not be afraid, only believe!

  • Wash hands often, and avoid using unwashed hands to touch eyes, mouth, or nose. Cover nose and mouth with a sleeve or tissue if possible when sneezing or coughing. Avoid close contact with individuals that are not well.

  • In between washing, use a natural hand sanitizer with germ fighting essential oils such as Young Living's Thieves Waterless Hand Sanitizer. Avoid Purell, Dial, and many other common commercial sanitizers since soaking up all those synthetic chemical antibacterial agents and perfumes through our skin isn't promoting good health!

  • Get enough restful sleep.

  • Avoid sugary foods, this is especially tough during the holiday season. Sugar promotes acid and mucus production in the body. This can throw off proper ph levels which then creates a welcome environment for bacteria and viruses to thrive. NO high fructose corn syrup! Daily probiotics before bed encourages healthy intestinal flora with good bacteria.

  • Be aware of psychoneuroimmunology, the study of how emotional and other psychological responses influence the biochemistry of the brain, hormone production, and the immune response. Our thoughts affect our bodies' immune system responses. Stress, fear, and worry can lower the production of the cells needed to fight disease.

  • Educate yourself about vaccine risks and think twice about getting the flu shot. As with many vaccines, the often permanent damaging effects to our health can be much worse than getting the disease/virus.

  • Maintain proper Vitamin D and antioxidant supplement intake as well as eating a healthy diet rich in essential fatty acids, fiber, and antioxidant fruits and vegetables.

Diffuse, diffuse, diffuse!
If you don't have a high quality cold air diffuser in your home yet, now is the perfect time to get into the practice of diffusing essential oils daily to create an unfriendly environment for the flu virus to hang out. Heating essential oils can damage the fragile therapeutic molecules, so candle burners, light bulb rings, and a pan of hot water on the stove are not good methods for diffusing. Some cold air diffusers like Young Living's Ultrasonic model have a built in timer. Running a diffuser in a central room of the home for 15 minutes every hour works well to disperse the micro fine oil mist and circulate it through the air where they can remain suspended for days. In very large homes, one diffuser is needed on each level for maximum therapeutic benefit.

Below are the essential oils that should be stocked in every home's medicine cabinet this fall!
Top virus-fighting essential oils for diffusing:
Young Living's Thieves Essential Oil Blend (see the full Thieves line of products)
Lemon
Ravensara
Tea Tree (melaleuca alternifolia)
Eucalyptus radiata
Top virus-fighting essential oils to apply topically:
Young Living's Thieves Essential Oil Blend
Young Living's Di-Gize Essential Oil Blend
Young Living's ImmuPower Essential Oil Blend
Peppermint
Mountain Savory
Oregano
Top virus-fighting essential oil supplements for internal use:
Young Living's Inner Defense Softgels
Young Living's Digest and Cleanse Softgels

DILUTE one EO single or blend 50:50 with a carrier oil and massage 2-4 drops on the chest, stomach, or lower back 2-4 times daily. Rotating singles and blends for each application works well so there aren't too many scents combining at the same time!
COMPRESS: Apply diluted oils above to lower abdomen and place a very warm damp towel 1-2 times daily.
Influenza Recipe for bath (from Essential Oils Desk Reference, 4th edition)

  • 2 drops Eucalyptus radiata

  • 6 drops frankincense

  • 3 drops blue cypress

  • 6 drops spruce

  • 15 drops ravensara

  • 1 drop wintergreen

Stir above essential oils thoroughly into 1 cup of Epsom salt or baking soda, then add mixture to hot bath water while tub is filling. Soak in hot bath until water cools. If you have very sensitive skin do a hot foot soak with a quarter of the mixture instead of full bath.

Every person's immune system responds in its own unique way when exposed to a bacteria or virus. There are no guaranteed silver bullets that will make us invincible, however essential oils have proven to be very beneficial and effective before, during, and after illness. To get the full therapeutic potential, essential oils MUST be therapeutic/medicinal grade products and MUST be used consistently. Playing around casually with them here and there just won't be effective especially in the face of a tough virus like H1N1. Learn as much as you can and arm yourself with these powerful, natural virus-fighting gifts from nature! Ask me about getting a Young Living wholesale account so you can save 24% off Customer prices on all your purchases.

These tips are for educational purposes only and not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any disease. Anyone who has a compromised immune system or thinks they may have the flu should consult with their health care provider.

AromaTalk Quick Tip: Smelly Gym Bags

"My daughter plays high school volleyball and after her last game she left her sneakers, knee pads, and foot brace in her gym bag, zipped it closed, and let it sit for two months. You can imagine the odor that greeted me when I finally opened that bag! I ran everything through the washing machine with some Thieves Household Cleaner. Then I took two capfuls of the Thieves cleaner, put it in a plastic tub and immersed everything for four hours. When I took everything out, not only was the locker room smell completely gone, but everything actually
smelled good as well!" Maria G. Turchi

New Feature! AromaTalk Tips

This is the first of a new weekly featured post here on Oils For Wellness called AromaTalk, tips from other users of Young Living Essential Oils courtesy of Young Living's Essential Lifestyle magazine or newsletter.

"Before I vacuum, I take out the HEPA filter* and put a few drops of Thieves essential oil blend, or whichever oil I'm in the mood for at that particular moment, then I pop the filter back in. The air flowing through the filter dispels the wonderful aroma throughout the room."- Kelly G. Palazzi
* A few drops of essential oil can be dropped on paper vacuum bags if you don't have a filter.

Oiling Myself Well

So sorry, dear followers, that I haven't posted for an entire week. I was busy battling a nasty respiratory bug of some sort, ahem, gathering research for my blog. I am rarely sick, but this was a tough one that hit me like a truck. Started with a fever, a swollen gland and ear, possibly tonsillitis, raw throat, massive mucus overload in my sinuses, and then congested lungs. My whole lymphatic system ached, no doubt clogged with mucus and the lymph node under my left arm was hard as rock down into my breast. It is my nature to stay positive and believe me,I worked at getting well, using every essential oil in my arsenal to move this bug along.

I don't do Nyquil or any Quil for that matter. Over the counter decongestants, cold medications, pain relievers? Nope. Here is how I used essential oils for this recent bout of yuck (remember these are medicinal, therapeutic grade essential oils--DO NOT take EOs internally unless they are labeled as a dietary supplement!).

Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) and Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia):
Applied these EOs 2 or 3 times daily for congested ears/glands. A drop of each EO mixed with a drop of jojoba or olive oil on a cotton swab then inserted halfway into ear, twisting gently to coat ear canal. Never drop EOs directly into ear!

For tonsillitis, I swab undiluted Tea Tree over the back of my throat--not pleasant to do, but almost immediate relief! Followed by hot water with fresh squeezed lemon, great for breaking up mucus and encouraging lymphatic circulation.

Thieves Hard Lozenges : I went through a whole box of these little gems! Great to suck on to soothe sore throats and cough and contains a powerful blend of EOs to fight bacteria in the ear, nose, and throat.

Inner Defense softgels: These are my silver bullets for respiratory issues, very , very strong thyme and oregano and other heavy hitting bacterial fighting EOs! I took 2-3 during the day with meals.

Life 5 Probiotics: These amped up my healthy intestinal flora that was struggling with mucus overload. Took one capsule at night.

Frankincense cleared out the congested lymph node and breast duct like nothing else! A 50/50 dilution of Frankincense in jojoba or olive oil rubbed over area, then I put a warm compress over it....ahhhh.

Eucalyptus globulus and Pine : I diffused these EOs like crazy throughout the house! Pine is a bronchial dilator and really helped expel the stuff lodged deep in my lungs.

Feel free to contact me for information about how to order these EOs and products for YOUR medicine cabinet or visit my online catalog for purchasing.

Essential Tip of the Week: Wart Removal

Thieves® was created by Young Living Essential Oils based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. This proprietary essential oil blend was university tested for its cleansing abilities. It is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health. Read the booklet about this amazing oil blend and the product line formulated with its powerful, pure, natural , chemical-free bacteria fighting properties. A great way to "green" your home and health care!

Here is a great tip for using Thieves for removing warts that was submitted by one of my customers:

"I wanted to thank you for your advice in using Thieves oil on my 9-year old daughter's wart on her foot. She had tried a number of over-the-counter medicines with the only result being it grew! By the time we began the twice-daily regimine with Thieves on a cotton swab, the wart was just under the size of a dime. My daughter actually liked the smell of this medicine and began applying it herself. I am happy to report the wart completely disappeared in less than a month and my daughter is thrilled. Thank you Jen; your products work!!!"

Common Scents For Safe Cleaning: Part 2

Essential oils are ideal cleaning supplies. They remove toxic mold, stale air, unpleasant odors, and kill viruses, bacteria, and dust mites. When blended, the synergistic effect of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, Eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary essential oils are highly effective against airborne and surface bacteria.

This EO combination is called “ Thieves” because it was created based on the historical account of four thieves in France who protected themselves from the Black Plague with cloves , rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing victims of the killer disease. When captured, they were offered a lighter sentence in exchange for their secret recipe. I use this blend for cleaning pretty much everything from toys to toilets!

CLICK HERE to read the complete booklet on the Thieves line of products.

Contact me for ordering information or visit my Young Living website.

Imagine your fresh kitchen with the smell of lemon and grapefruit or your clean living room scented with pine or cedarwood.

For a calming atmosphere in the bedroom choose lavender and bergamot for relaxation or ylang ylang and jasmine for a romantic mood.

Brain boosters like rosemary and basil are perfect for the office to enhance concentration and aid stress relief.

Don’t forget to spray the pet pillow with flea deterring lavender and peppermint!

Basic All Purpose Disinfectant: In a 16 oz heavy duty plastic spray bottle add water, a squirt of natural dish soap, and 5 drops each of lavender, lemon, and lemongrass or a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner. You will need to triple or quadruple EOs or Thieves Cleaner amounts for toilet bowls, grease, mold and mildew cleaning. Be sure to test surfaces before using heavy solutions. Do not use on varnished surfaces. Shake well before each use.

Basic Room Deodorizing or Insect Repelling Spray: In a 4oz glass or heavy duty plastic misting bottle, fill with distilled water and 20 drops of your choice of essential oils depending on the purpose. Vodka works well for a misting spray since the alcohol evaporates and doesn't leave surfaces damp, but make sure it is stored out of reach of children and pets! Shake well before each use.

Carpet Freshening Powder: Add 15-20 drops of essential oils to a cup of baking soda. Mix well and place in a covered container overnight. Sprinkle some over your carpet and then vacuum it up immediately. Will keep vacuum cleaner bag deodorized as well.

Carpet Cleaning : Instead of those toxic soaps used by many carpet cleaning services or shampooing machine rentals, use one capful of Thieves Household Cleaner to 6 cups+ of water in the machine.

Hard Floor Cleaner: Add 1/4 cup white vinegar to a bucket of water, then add 5-10 drops of lemon, pine, etc. Or just toss in a capful of Thieves Household cleaning into a bucket of hot water.

Basic Glass/Window Washing: Add 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner to 5 quarts of water.

Fly Repelling Window Cleaner: In a 2oz spray bottle add water and 10 drops of lavender or lemongrass. Shake well, spray, then wipe windows down with a damp cloth.

Dishwasher: Put a teaspoon of Thieves Household Cleaner in the detergent cups like you would use soap or add to natural detergent as a germ fighting booster. DO NOT MIX EOs WITH CHEMICAL/BLEACH DISHWASHING SOAPS OR SPOT REMOVING AIDS! A couple drops of lemon, orange, grapefruit, or Purification Blend tossed into in the rinse water(open the door and drop in the water at the bottom of the dishwasher) helps combat smells of dishes from fish dinners, etc and freshens the drain.

Laundry Deodorizing: Great for pet beds, crib sheets, mattress pads, barn clothes, soiled baby stuff, etc. When washer is full of water and laundry add a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner to wash and then 10 drops of lemon or Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) to the rinse cycle. Soak for several hours or overnight then spin out. Lavender is nice in the rinse cycle for cloth diapers.

Happy Safe Cleaning!

Common Scents for Safe Cleaning: Part 1

The potential danger of household cleaners was brought to my attention as a young girl by hearing frequent retellings of my mother’s nearly life-threatening experience during an attempt to sanitize a toilet bowl. She was cleaning the bowl with ammonia and just for extra power, splashed in some bleach. The fumes just about caused her to flee the bathroom gasping for air. The tissues in her sinus cavities ,bronchial tubes and lungs were burned by the vapor, then some scar tissue developed.

For years she suffered with a chronic cough and bouts of walking pneumonia . At the present her respiratory system still remains easily susceptible to infection. Later, my mom read accounts of housewives who were not as fortunate as she had been, since the cloud of fumes from mixing certain chemicals with chlorine can freeze the lungs, causing suffocation. NEVER, NEVER mix anything with bleach was a continual tape that ran through my head whenever I set out to clean! Actually, I just never use bleach at all these days.

Here’s why :
  • Household bleach is an irritant and may cause skin, eye, and respiratory tract irritation.

  • Dermatitis may result from direct skin contact.

  • Ingestion of a few ounces or more of bleach may result in medical complications.

  • DO NOT mix bleach with acids! Mixing household bleach with acids such as vinegar, ammonia, toilet bowl cleaners; and drain cleaners produces chloramine gas which can result in burning of mucous membranes and chemical pneumonia.

  • If you use "fresh scented" bleach be aware that it may mask your natural ability to nasally detect overexposure to the bleach product.

  • According to Susan Boothby, an attorney from Denver..."We have a special concern with the use of chlorine (found in laundry bleaches and other cleaners). Whenever chlorine is used, organochlorides are formed. Organocholrides are precursors to dioxins, a deadly class of compounds that cause toxic health effects at levels thousands of times lower than most other chemicals. Dioxins do not break down in the environment and they accumulate in human tissue. Anything bleached with chlorine has organochloride residues. A new EPA draft report on the dangers of dioxin warns for the first time that even trace amounts can cause serious health problems including birth defects, genetic mutations, threats to the immune and reproductive systems, damage to the liver, kidneys and skin and even cancer." (http://www.showmeahealthyhome.com/)

We want to kill the germs lurking in our homes, right? Housecleaning does not have to be hazardous! Bring those chemical cleaning products to the hazardous waste collection and explore some great-smelling, safe alternatives using essential oils.

Essential Tip of the Week: Sinus Infection/Post Nasal Drip

I wish I would have known about using essential oils for sinus congestion when I was growing up. I had chronic post nasal drip that was so very irritating! Eventually I learned that stress was a huge contributor to this problem. Now I understand that it was my body's attempt to "swallow the tears" when I was in an emotional or stressful situation. Even excitement or anticipation could trigger a horrible bout of the drip. Here are a few other things that can add to sinus troubles:
  • Diet high in refined sugar, wheat, and dairy contributes to an acid environment in the body.
  • An imbalance of acid can create inflammation in the tissues.
  • Over production of mucus occurs to protect the tissues from the inflammation.
  • Lack of proper hydration can thicken mucous and inhibit proper lymph drainage.
  • Synthetic fragrances and chemicals can cause respiratory inflammation as well.

Nasopharyngitis is the inflammation of the back of the nasal cavity where it connects to the throat and the eustachian tubes.

When my throat starts feeling scratchy (not even really sore yet) and my glands start feeling a bit enlarged, my first EO choice is a drop or two of Purification (contains lemongrass which is anti-inflammatory and promotes lymph flow) or R.C. blend in a few drops of jojoba oils rubbed gently with downward strokes from temples on both sides of my neck below ears. I also suck on an Thieves EO hard lozenge which really helps if my ears feel like they could plug or ache. Getting the lymph system moving can ward off a full blown head cold or sore throat.

Gargling with Melaleuca alternafolia or Thieves blend can help help kill bacteria in the nose, ears, and throat. I just drop one drop of either of these EO Supplements on the very back of my tongue and hold it in my mouth, mixing with saliva for several minutes, then swallowing. This is very effective when started at the very first indication of infection and repeated 3-4 times for the first hour, then once an hour until symptoms subside.

This tip is for educational purposes only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Winterize Your Body With Inner Defense

Just like draining the sprinklers, putting on snow tires, and checking the furnace in preparation for winter, our bodies also require special maintenance during the cold time of the year.

Young Living has pioneered the formulation of therapeutic/medicinal essential oils for internal use. In Europe, the internal use of essential oils is commonly called aromatic medicine. Here in the US, it is still a fairly new concept. First of all, few essential oils are available that are pure enough to be called a supplement. If you plan to take an essential oil internally be certain it has a white "supplement facts" label on the bottle otherwise it isn't meant for internal use.

Inner Defense was put to the test for me last winter. A friend and I decided to do a mid winter getaway to stay in a cabin( yes, it was heated-somewhat!) for the weekend. It was 20 below zero outside and when my friend got home she developed bronchitis and used an inhaler and antibiotics for a few weeks. I immediately started taking Inner Defense 3 times a day with meals. I could tell something was trying to lower my immune system on our trip because my throat was starting to get a little scratchy. Long story short, I took these high powered oils for about 10 days and never got sick even though I was directly exposed to the germs/virus all weekend besides being chilled in subzero weather.

What is Inner Defense?

These liquid gel caps are filled with some of the most potent immune supporting essential oils.

Including Thieves Blend: Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus radiata, Rosemary

Thyme, which is a rich source of thymol, a substance known to create an unfriendly environment for yeast and fungus.

Oregano, which is high in carvacrol, known to support well-being when the body is distressed.

Citronella has mild cleansing properties.

Don't let the cold and flu season get you down; winterize today with essential oils on the inside!

Available on my website or contact me for more information.

Essential Tip of the Week

This tip is from another Young Living distributor, this is pretty much everything I personally use the Thieves cleaner for. I also love washing my son's toys and highchair tray with it since I don't have to worry about chemical residues lurking around. One capful in a 16oz spray bottle of water keeps this wonderful cinnamon smelling cleaner at your fingertips for quick cleanups anytime!
"I am using Thieves Household Cleaner for everything. It feels so good to be able to say no to the big chemical companies by not buying their products.I use one capful of Thieves HHC in my dishwasher instead of detergent. This works wonderfully, the dishes are very clean and there are no spots.
I also use one capful of Thieves HHC in my laundry instead of detergent. It works as a stain remover as well.If you would like to ditch the dryer sheets and fabric softener, you can put 1/4 to 1/2 cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle of your washer. Simply put 10 drops of your favorite EO on an old sock and throw it in the dryer to make your clothes smell good. Dryer sheets are so toxic because the chemicals in them heat up and penetrate our clothing and then we put this clothing against the largest organ in our bodies, our skin. I just learned about the dryer sheets at a class we had Saturday.
I also use Thieves HHC to clean everything in my home. I put a capful in a pan of warm water and do the entire house. For glass I use microfiber towels, one in the Thieves water and a dry one to buff off the residue. It works wonderfully.I use this mixture on my furniture, floors, sinks, toilet, shower, basically everything.
I measured one capful and it is equal to one teaspoon. I wanted to do the math. My measuring spoon indicated that one teaspoon is also 5ml and the bottle contains 428ml which is 85.6 "servings" per bottle. I wanted to find an easy way to compare it to what people are currently using so I could show them that they could go green and save money at the same time."

May God Bless You With Abundance-Dana Christisen
